With the legalization of recreational cannabis in Oregon this month, we thought it would be fitting to highlight our first dispensary of the month in this great state. Farma PDX located in Portland is an absolutely beautifully designed and branded dispensary with a interior feel of an upscale optometrist store. Farma is a network of licensed growers, botanical scientists and patients bound by a common purpose: To provide predictable and effective medicine that enhances people’s lives. By uniting cutting-edge analytics with the deepest catalogue of genetics in the Pacific Northwest, Farma’s Portland dispensary is doing its small part to deliver on the vast promise of cannabis.
Farma is committed to an evidence-based approach to cannabis. Among other things, this means subjecting all of their medicine to rigorous lab testing, well beyond anything the law requires. They work with an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified Oregon laboratory that tests not only for pesticides, mold and mildew, but for all of the known therapeutic compounds found in the cannabis plant – including dozens of active cannabinoids and therapeutic terpenes. While not inexpensive, the insight they gain from this data is invaluable.
Farma is also exploring new avenues of scientific inquiry. For instance, they are assisting Phylos Bioscience in their extraordinary efforts to apply modern molecular genetics to cannabis. Additionally, Farma is working together with plant pathologists and botanists at Newcleus Nurseries to solve some of the vexing pest and pathology issues that have emerged in recent years.
Beyond that, they are working with subcritical CO2 extraction using Eden Laboratories equipment to make whole-plant cannabis concentrates that are titrated, predictable, and free of harmful solvents. The future, in other words, is bright – for cannabis and for patients.
Next time you are in Portland we invite you to stop by and experience Farma Pdx for yourself. Their friendly knowledgable staff are always ready to answer any questions you might have. Don’t forget that out of state travelers will probably be able to shop for flower at Portland medical dispensaries as soon as October 1st.
